Recurve archers one win away from Rio Olympics berth
Meanwhile, the recurve archers stayed in contention for a Rio Olympics berth. Former World No. 1 Deepika Kumari was the best of the lot and she bagged the eighth spot in qualification. The women’s recurve team got the 10th place and will face No. 7 seed Germany.
The men’s team had a tougher outing and barely managed to stay in top 16. Rahul Banerjee was the best-placed of the trio and grabbed a lowly 46th place while the team had to be content with the 15th position. Second seeds Italy await them in the opening round of the knock-out stages.
Deepika and Rahul will look for a medal in the recurve mixed team category and they secured the 10th place. They have Spain up next.
Only the top eight teams will get to seal their Rio berths. So, the men’s and women’s recurve teams need to win the first round on Tuesday to confirm their places for the 2016 Olympics.
