Running enthusiasts across the country have a good number of exciting and challenging marathons in August, coming their way. Sports Rediscovered takes a close look at marathons making news as a part of its coverage of the Indian marathon circuit.
Indian Marathons in August
Coimbatore Night Marathon
This is the first night marathon to be held in Coimbatore on 1st August 2015 at 8pm and has four categories, Half Marathon, 10K, 10K Charity Run & 5K. All finishers will be presented with certificates. Runners of both 10K & half marathon will get timing chips and finishers will get medals as well.
Durshet Forest Marathon
Started last year, this marathon has grown in popularity among the running community in Mumbai and Pune, looking forward to a rich running experience with a touch of nature. The second edition of this marathon will be held on 2nd August 2015 under the aegis of Raigad District Athletic Association and has four categories – 32K, Half Marathon (21.1K), 10K and 5K.
PUMA Urban Stampede – Bengaluru
The 8th edition of PUMA Urban Stampede will be held at Bengaluru on 2nd August 2015. This popular running event has a Corporate Relay and 10K, 5K for individuals. Thousands participate every year and make this event a fun-filled experience.
Run for the Nation- New Delhi
This marathon will be held at Vikaspuri, New Delhi on 9th August 2015. Organized by Vikaspuri Runners, this event has two race categories, 6K and 12K. All participants will get a T-shirt, Medal, Certificate and refreshments.
HSR Freedom Run-Bengaluru
This marathon will be held at HSR Layout Bengaluru on 15th August 2015 for awareness and campaign for a Greener and Healthier Bengaluru. The event has two categories, 10K run for people above 15 years and 5K run for children below 15 years. Timing chip will be provided to 10K runners. All finishers will receive certificates & medals.
Mumbai Ultra 12-Hour Run
Organized by Shivaji Park Marathon Club, this event is going to be held at MGM Swimming pool, Shivaji Park, Mumbai, on 15th August 2015, with an objective to encourage people take up running to live healthy. The race is going to start at 5 am and end at 5 pm. To be deemed a finisher, a runner must cross the start line at 5 am, cross the finish line at 5 pm and cover a distance of at least 43 kms during this time duration. During the 12 hour period, a runner can take break as per his/her requirement and will have to go through medical check-ups at the medical station after completing a maximum of two loops. Started last year, this event has grown hugely popular among running enthusiasts looking forward to participate in challenging running events.
Monsoon 10K Run- Mumbai
Organized by Sports United, Monsoon 10K Run will be held at Chembur, Mumbai, on 23rd August 2015 and is the first of the three run series which will be held across three prestigious Clubs/Gymkhana’s in the year 2015-16. The event will promote and support MARD (Men Against Rape and Discrimination).It will be a 10K timed race and all participants will be provided with timing chips.
Yeour Hill Run Challenge -Thane
The 2nd edition of the Yeour Hill Run Challenge will be held on 30th August 2015. This event has become popular among running enthusiasts in Thane and Mumbai due to its unique hill running experience in the greenery of Yeour Hill Thane. This marathon has four categories, 15K Hill Run, 10K Obstacle Race, 6K Green Run and a 3K Senior Citizen & Kids Run. This event does not provide participants with timing chip.
Airtel Hyderabad Marathon
Started in the year 2011, this marathon has grown to become one of the biggest marathons in the country. This year, the fifth edition of the marathon will be held on 30th August 2015. International and national elite athletes and running enthusiasts from across the country are expected to be a part of this popular running event which has five categories, Full Marathon, Half Marathon,10K Run, 5K Run and 3K Fun Run. The event is organized by Hyderabad Runners Society (HR), a non-profit organization which was founded in 2007 to encourage running in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. A combination of rolling hills and three bridges will make the running route of this marathon, one of the most challenging routes in the country.
