Rajat Chauhan Settles For Silver At World Archery Meet

Asian Games gold medallist Indian archer Rajat Chauhan had to settle for the silver medal in the men’s compound final at the World Archery Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark on Saturday. Chauhan lost the summit clash 143-147 to Denmark’s Stephan Hansen.

This is India’s first ever individual medal from the prestigious world meet.

Rajat Chauhan and Stephan Hansen were tied at the end of two sets at 58 apiece. But the Dane put up a flawless performance after that and scored a perfect 30 in the third set which helped steer the match in his favour. Chauhan, on the other hand, could only muster 27 in the third set.

Even though Rajat came up with a brilliant 30 in the fourth set, his scores in the fifth set once again dipped and he managed only 28. He finished with 143 at the end of five sets while Hansen scored 147 with another 30 in the fifth set.

India has a chance to win 2 more medals on Sunday

India is assured of another medal in the women’s recurve team final where Deepika Kumari & Co will be going for the gold. India has a chance of a third medal as well if Laxmirani Majhi can win her bronze medal play-off in the individual women’s recurve competition. Both the matches are scheduled for Sunday.
