The penultimate day of the Hyderabad leg of the Pro Kabaddi League saw the third placed Bengaluru Bulls lock horns with Bengal Warriors. The Warriors, who were coming on the back of an agonizing draw against the Patna Pirates in their previous game, looked set to get back to their winning ways.
However, it was Bengaluru’s star raider Ajay Thakur who stole the limelight at the Gachibowli stadium in Hyderabad with his brilliant raiding performance. The Bulls registered a comfortable 33-22 win over their opponents and tightened their grip at the no. 3 slot on the league table.
Bengaluru Bulls rediscover their raiding strength:
Ajay Thakur was at his devastating best on Thursday night as he opened the team’s account with a two-point raid. The raider single-handedly took the attack to the opposition and kept the scoreboard ticking. He was well supported by skipper Manjeet Chhillar who was playing a responsible role as an all-rounder. For Bengal, Jan Kun Lee was among the points and ensured that Bengal were still in the hunt. Bengaluru shifted gears after the 16th minute and inflicted their first all-out in the following minute to surge ahead with a score of 14-9. At half time, the score read 16-10 and Bengaluru returned to the dugout as the happier unit.
Ajay Thakur pockets 12, Bengaluru Bulls win 33-22:
The story in the second half was the same as the Bengal Warriors struggled to make a comeback. On the other hand, Ajay Thakur had found his mojo and continued to plunder raid points for his side. The defense was top-notch as Manjeet Chhillar denied his opponents with his rock-solid body blocks. The Warriors suffered another all-out in the 36th minute and hence saw a 9-point deficit. At close of play, it was Bengaluru who emerged victorious with an emphatic 33-22 win. Ajay Thakur signed off with 12 raid points and skipper Manjeet was instrumental as always, picking up 8 points.
