ISL Weekly: Mumbai City FC Back In Business

ISL team Chennaiyin FC was the first to announce an international pre-season tour of Italy and now are followed by FC Pune City who will be traveling to Turkey ahead of the ISL second season.

Last week, there were news of Chelsea legend Didier Drogba being offered one million USD for an ISL club but that deal never happened. Instead, another Ivorian with almost the same and a pretty good record Didier Zakora was signed by FC Pune City. Mumbai City FC went back on the aggressive by signing four more overseas players to strengthen their squad this week.

Mumbai City FC sign four overseas players

Mumbai City FC already has a very strong team and they further strengthen the team reminding themselves of their poor performance in the previous season. They went on a fling by signing more overseas players. This week alone they signed four, Selim Benachour (Tunisia), Christian Bustos (Spain), Frederic Piquionne (France) and Frantz Bertin (Haiti).

The experienced trio will join hands with Marquee player-coach Anelka and India captain Chhetri.

Pune and Kolkata sign Marquee player

It was a busy week for most clubs in the transfer window as it witnessed the signing of two marquee internationals, by defending champions Atletico de Kolkata and FC Pune City.

Pune announced the arrival of Adrian Mutu as marquee player to overcome Pune’s scoring troubles and to make an impact with his goal scoring. Also, Pune City signed Ivory Coast international Didier Zakora (not Drogba).

While Kolkata’s failed attempt to sign Chelsea legend Drogba was not much a setback as Atletico De Kolkata ended up signing Portuguese international Helder Postiga as marquee player.

Postiga will join the list of well known international faces at the second season of the ISL.

In other news FC Goa wants to add I-League foreigners Luciano Sobrosa and Odafa Okolie to their growing list of foreigners, however it could be met with opposition from the organizers of the I-league reports Times of India. While, NorthEast United FC are on the lookout for a replacement player-cum-goalkeeping coach after sacking Anthony Warner from their squad.
