FA Cup holders Arsenal defeated Chelsea 1-0 at the Wembley on Sunday to win the Community shield for the second season in a row.
Confident performance from Arsenal
Arsenal, who had an excellent pre-season started off on the right foot when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gave them the lead on the 24th minute. He managed to drive the ball into the top corner with his weaker left foot and forced Chelsea to chase the game from that moment onwards.
Although Chelsea made a few chances here and there through the likes of Ramires, Oscar and Eden Hazard, they were clearly off the target throughout the game. It took them 68 minutes to force Arsenal’s new goal keeper, Petr Cech to make a save.
Arsenal tried to push for a second afterwards through Santi Cazorla and Keiran Gibbs but nothing materialized. Both the teams were clearly rusty to an extent and it apparently made the game a bit bland.
This is Arsene Wenger’s first win against Jose Mourinho in 14 games. Mourinho had earlier mocked Wenger about the winless streak but that was put to bed with the Arsenal win. Chamberlain took home the man of the match award while Mourinho made it to the news once again for throwing his loser’s medal into the crowd.
