An emotional closing ceremony for the Special Olympics 2015 in Los Angeles saw a great many competitors say farewell to the sporting festival.
The Special Olympics 2015 saw participants from over 160 countries in the various sporting events held during the week. Ranging from weightlifting to football, about 6,500 athletes are said to have participated in the event. With such a variety of participants, it is hard to report single winners as their support together is the reason for the success of the event. On the other hand, though not every competitor could win the gold, silver or bronze, yet each of them were awarded with a performance ribbon and the opportunity to take the victory stand, reported Times of India.
“These games have been an unprecedented experience for Special Olympics and for the cause of bringing athletes with intellectual disabilities into the mainstream” said Jan Palchikoff, Special Olympics executive.
