The Indian Women’s recurve team and Mangal Singh Champia bagged spots for the Olympics next year after a promising performance at the World Archery Championship.
Two Medals for India at World Archery championship
India won two unprecedented medals in the championship and had a strong showing altogether. The Qualification round saw a stellar performance from Abhishek Varma, who qualified as the top seed in qualification.
Later, the Indian Women’s Recurve team booked their spot for the Rio Olympics thanks to some great performance from Deepika Kumari. Compound teams and the men’s recurve team suffered blows elsewhere, but Mangal Singh Champia kept the hopes high with his individual performance.
Rajat Chauhan then went on to win a silver for the nation in the men’s compound category. He was defeated by Stephan Hansen in the final step but it turned out to be India’s first ever individual medal in the prestigious world meet.
Following Chauhan, the women’s recurve team also snatched silver. It proved to be India’s second medal in the tournament and Laxmirani Majhi had the chance to add one more when she competed in the bronze medal playoff. She could not get the medal, but it proved to be a great outing for India altogether.
