The English Premier League returns this Saturday, and what is the better way to kick-off the season, seeing Manchester United in action on the opening day of the competition. With a total of six matches lined-up for the opening Saturday, all eyes would be on Manchester United and Chelsea, as to see how they kick-start their campaigns.
Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspurs:
The game between the Red Devils and the Spurs would start the new season of the English Premier League, and no doubt both teams would be hoping to get three points on the boards. United would be heading into the encounter as favorites, despite losing against Paris Saint-Germain in their last friendly fixture. Tottenham, meanwhile, will be aiming to cause more of an upset than anything else at the Old Trafford.
United seems like a force to reckon with this season, despite their chances of winning the English Premier League are not quite high, seeing there are holes that still need to be filled. Despite making some good signings, Louis van Gaal’s defence need to be worked upon, as United is yet to sign a quality defender.
The Spurs, meanwhile, have strengthened their defence, as they had plenty of defensive holes last season. Tottenham signed Toby Alderweireld from Athletico Madrid in a bid to solidify their defence.
It would be an interesting match, seeing both teams would be aiming to make it count. Interestingly, it is also United’s earliest start in the English Premier League ever.
Chelsea vs Swansea
Another important game of the evening would be between reigning champions Chelsea and Swansea City. Chelsea, interestingly, aren’t coming into the game with much of confidence, after losing to Arsenal in the FA Community Shield, while also losing to Fiorentina in their last pre-season friendly.
Jose Mourinho saved some of best players for the big games, as Diego Costa was on the bench, but the match against Swansea would be a perfect platform for Chelsea to get back into the groove. Swansea, meanwhile, played just one friendly on their way to this English Premier League season, and no guesses they are under-prepared.
Apart from the two big matches on the opening night, Everton would face Watford, Bournemouth lock horns with Aston Villa, Norwich City would go face-to-face with Crystal Palace, and Everton would be up against Watford, while Leicester City would face Sunderland.
