2014 Pro Kabaddi League runners-up U Mumba locked horns with defending champs Jaipur Pink Panthers for the second time in this season. In a high-intensity clash, the Pink Panthers came out as victors as they outplayed an indomitable U Mumba side with a score of 35-25 at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday.
With the win Jaipur Pink Panthers not only ended U Mumba’s unbeaten run but also brightened their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals.
Cornered Jaipur Pink Panthers gain crucial lead at Half-time
Both teams struggled to gain much advantage in the first half. However, it was Jaipur Pink Panthers who managed to draw first blood after two tight minutes and U Mumba soon turned it around taking a 3-2 lead. The contest was evenly balanced till the 14th minute but Jaipur Pink Panthers were reduced to two defenders. The wounded Panthers struck back gaining three points with five minutes remaining in the first half. The final five minutes made all the difference for the Jaipur side as they walked away with a 15-11 lead.
Jaipur too hot to handle for U Mumba:
Jaipur Pink Panthers entered the second half more determined and inflicted the first all-out of the match to extend their lead to nine points. U Mumba raiders were no way close to their best performances on Friday, as none of their raiders managed to win more than two points. Adding to their woes were Jaipur duo Sonu Narwal and Kuldeep Singh who gained six points each for their team through raids and tackles respectively. In the end, the deficit was beyond Mumbai’s reach and Anup Kumar’s men ended up on the losing side. The final score read 35-25 and Jaipur have entered the top half of the league table for the first time in this season.
