The third stage of the Archery World Cup has come to an end. The tournament was a decent success for the Indian archers as they finished with one gold, one silver and a narrow miss for a bronze medal.
Two medals for India at Archery World Cup
The Indian mixed recurve pair of Deepika Kumari and Mangal Singh Champia were the first to seal a spot in the finals as they defeated the second seed pair of Jean Charles-Valladont and Sophie Plaenix. The duo then faced dark horses Juan Rene Serrano and Aida Roman of Mexico in the finals and had to settle for the silver medal ending their dream run.
Abhishek Verma displayed stellar performances en-route his final clash against Iran’s Esmaeil Ebadi. It was the Indian who got the better of his opponent in the summit clash and pocketed another gold for his country.
Abhishek Verma and team narrowly miss Bronze:
The trio of Abhishek Verma, Kawal Preet Singh and Rajat Chauhan looked strong contenders for a medal haul at the men’s compound event. Their run was halted by the top-ranked USA team who came up with a superior effort.
However, the trio had the opportunity to convert the loss into a bronze medal facing third seed Italy in the play-offs. But, the Indian team suffered another defeat at the hands of the Italians and narrowly missed out on a bronze medal.
