Telugu Titans stamped their authority at the Pro Kabaddi league stage once again as they inch closer to the knockouts. Thus time, the Hyderabad outfit crushed league leaders U Mumba 46-25 to end their league stage campaign with a win. Telugu Titans finished with 50 points from 14 games while U Mumba continued to lead the pack with 60 points. This was only their second defeat of the league stage.
First half: Second-string U Mumba opponents too easy for Titans
Key players like Anup Kumar, Surender Nada and Mohit Chhillar were rested ahead of the semifinals and coach Ravi Shetty decided to field a second-string squad to test their bench-strength. Telugu Titans opened the first half on a positive note. Prashant Rai was on top of his game and this helped Hyderabad take up a lead of 7-4 after the first seven minutes. U Mumba, however, leveled the game through some excellent defensive game and at the 11th minute, the teams were tied at 9 points each.
The Telugu Titans changed their gear afterwards and came up with seven straight points. Mumbai were pushed back early and they could not recover from the deficit. This helped the Titans to sign off from the first half with a lead of 20-12 against the league leaders.
Telugu Titans continue domination in the second half
Telugu carried their fine run of form into the second period of the game as well. U Mumba did cut down their deficit early into the game through Pradeep Kumar but the Titans came back strongly. Prashant Rai produced a raid that won him 3 points and helped inflict an all-out on U Mumba.
Telugu had a lead of 19 points with just 3 minutes to go but Pradeep Kumar showed a last-minute struggle which got him three more points and took the score to 23-39. Telugu outscored Mumba in the final two minutes as well and ended the match with a score of 46-25.
