Guwahati Half Marathon – Annual Running Extravaganza of North East!

Sports Rediscovered previews one of the biggest running events in the North East India. The Guwahati Half Marathon, organized by the students of IIT Guwahati, is growing in popularity every year.

Event Details:

The capital city of Assam is gearing up to host the Guwahati Half Marathon 2015, an annual running event on August 30, 2015. Started in the year 2009, this event has grown over the years to become one of the biggest in the North East India. The students of IIT Guwahati organize the half marathon as an annual tradition of Techniche – the Annual Techno-Management Fest of IIT Guwahati. The theme for this year’s event is Unity Run for Peace.

Race Categories:

The Guwahati Half Marathon will have three categories, Glory Run – 21k run for professionals, Spirit Run – 6k run, General Championship – 6k run exclusively for schools & colleges. All the races will start from Bharalumukh ground, Sonaram school and end at Nehru stadium.

A unique feature of this half marathon is a creativity event kept by the organizers in the form of painting competition, which will be held at Nehru Stadium.

Award & Recognition:

Participants who complete the Glory Run will get certificates, and cash awards will be given to the top ten in both men’s and women’s categories.

All basic amenities like medical facilities, aid stations and refreshments will be provided to the participants. Interestingly, the Guwahati Half Marathon is one of the largest sporting events organized by a student body in the country. This annual running event is expected to see huge participation from running enthusiast of Guwahati and the nearby cities and towns.
