It has been two years since the last boxing camp was held at the junior and sub junior levels. A camp has been set for young boxers selected via trials held by the Sports Authority of India at five venues across the country.
49 shortlisted for the junior boxing camp
The camp is being held for the Indian team’s preparations ahead of the AIBA World Junior Boxing Championship to be held at St. Petersburg, Russia during the early half of September.
The selection is open to all young boxers born between 1999 and 2000 for the 13 different weight categories in the junior division. During the trials, a total of 49 youngsters have been selected for full training at the preparatory camp at the National Boxing Academy in Rohtak, to be held from the 25th July to 3rd September.
Out of the shortlisted 49 candidates, only 41 will make their way to Russia for the championships and hope for a strong medal haul in different weight categories.
