The kabaddi extravaganza has come to an end for this year, with U Mumba taking the crown. The last season’s finalists went one step further this time, lifting the trophy in stunning fashion. The second season of the Pro Kabaddi League left the fans with numerous memories, while also showcasing the charismatic youngsters who will rule the sport in the coming years.
Here are five of the best moments from this season of Pro Kabaddi League:
Underrated at the start, champion defender at the end
The defender had an average outing in the first season with Dabang Delhi, and he was reinstated as the captain of the team during the second season. You would have guessed by now it is none other than Delhi captain and defender, Ravinder Pahal.
He was re-instated as the captain for the third game, and fortunes turned around for the Delhi boys. The Haryanvi mostly performed under the shadows of star raiders Kashiling Adake and Rohit Kumar Chaudhary. However, his performance against the Jaipur Pink Panthers early in the season is hard to forget. Apart from that, Pahal has seven super tackles to his name and accumulated the highest number of successful tackles per match average throughout the tournament.
Telugu Titans scored highest points second season in a row
This can be taken as quite a coincidence or probably the fact that the Titans just have a knack of scoring big against the Patna Pirates. This season, Telugu Titans defeated the Patna Pirates by a margin of 20 points in the league, scoring 54 points altogether, making it the highest score in the tournament this year.
The same fixture last season garnered 60 points for the Titans, which was the highest total by a single team.
Jaipur Pink Panthers beat Dabang Delhi by a margin of 30 points
The defending champions Jaipur Pink Panthers did not perform well early this season. Their wins too were not as impressive, considering they were the defending champions.
Now, what do the Pink Panthers do? They fight back and announce themselves back in the tournament with a semi-final spot still hanging in the balance. And Dabang Delhi became the victims of their wrath, going down 51-21 as Pink Panthers kept their hopes alive.
The win by Pink Panthers also holds the record with the largest margin of points this season.
Kashiling Adake single-handedly competed against Telugu Titans
Dabang Delhi star raider Kashiling Adake had already threatened opposition defences, but his performance against the Telugu Titans was the best of the season. Kashi (as he is popularly called by his fans) won a record 24 (20 touch and 4 bonus) raiding points in the game.
Considering that, it was no wonder Kashi was the best raider the league has seen in its second edition. Some of his records this season are most number of successful raids (87), most raiding points (114) and highest number of successful raids per match (6.21).
Match of the season: Bengaluru Bulls vs Telugu Titans in Semi Final 1
The semi final clash between Bengaluru Bulls and Telugu Titans was undoubtedly the match you couldn’t miss. It seemed like quite an ordinary match for majority of the duration, as Bengaluru overpowered their regional counterparts. And it almost seemed to have reached the end, but there was a miraculous turn-around caused by a sudden uprising from the Titans in a last ditch effort.
The Titans almost succeeded in making the comeback of the season. However, the presence of mind of Bengaluru Bulls captain Manjeet Chhillar ensured a safe passage to the finals.
