Indian Tennis Fans will be disappointed with the opening day qualifier results as Somdev Devvarman and Saketh Myneni lost to their respective opponents.
Somdev, Myneni Lose in Opening Round of US Open 2015 Qualifiers
Somdev Devvarman was up against Slovakian youngster Norbert Gombos in the first round of the qualifier. The Indian started well by clinching the first set 7-5.
The 124th ranked Slovak bounced back strongly in the second set to win 7-5. With both the sets ending neck-to-neck, the viewers would have expected more action in the third and final set. However, much to the disappointment of the fans, the match ended quickly with the final set lasting just over the half-hour mark. And it was the Slovak who enjoyed the last laugh, over-powering the Indian 6-1 to qualify for the next round.
On the other hand, Saketh Myneni suffered similar fate as he failed to register a win over his opponent Jan-Lennard Struff. The German eventually claimed a comfortable victory. Despite losing the first set 4-6, Struff made a comeback in the second set and blitzed past the Indian in the final set registering a 4-6, 6-4 and 6-1 victory over Saketh Myneni.
All Hopes on Yuki and Ramkumar
Indian Tennis players Yuki Bhambri and Ramkumar Ramanathan will have a go tonight at US Open 2015 Men’s qualifiers. The two will have an uphill task against their respective opponents to try and avoid a third consecutive Grand Slam this year without an Indian participating in the singles event.
