It took just over a minute for the Commonwealth Games silver-medallist Mandeep Jangra to push his rival out of the contest. Competing in the Welterweight 69 kg category, he won the bout 3-0 over Vietnam’s Vien Ngoc Huynh.
Powerful right hook earns Mandeep Jangra the victory
Mandeep Jangra dominated the fight from the word go, and the fight did not last long. The Vietnamese boxer was forced to abandon the game after he suffered a cut below his left eye, which left him with blood on his face.
The unfortunate incident was caused by a powerful right hook from the Indian. It ultimately led to Mandeep Jangra being adjudged the winner by the judges on the basis of points.
With the win under his belt, Mandeep ought to be high on confidence ahead of the pre quarters, where he is set to face Japan’s Ysauhiro Suzuki on Sunday, 30th August 2015.
Other Boxers yet to enter the ring
Indian boxers Manish Kaushik (60 kg), Satish Kumar (+91 kg) and Manpreet Singh would begin their respective campaigns tomorrow, 29th August 2015. Manish will take on China Chin Long, while Satish will be up against Korea’s Hyok Ri Jin and Manpreet will square off against Sri Lanka’s Nuvan Sugeewa Sampath.
The six Indians who got byes in their first round of the Asian Boxing Championships are set to start their campaign on the 30th August.
