Another edition of the US Open Tennis tournament is just around the corner. The hard courts of New York City will witness some high adrenaline tennis action over the next month. Just like all the years that went by, Indian tennis players will be looking to triumph at the last Grand Slam of the year. US Open has seen some great performances by Indians throughout its history and we take a look back on them.
Vijay Amritraj reaches Quarter-Finals (1973, 1974)
The success of Indians when it comes to Singles competition in US Open is limited. However, Vijay Amritraj made history when he reached the Quarterfinals of the Grand Slam in 1973 and 1974. It was a great moment for the Indian fans and we are still waiting to see someone pass this performance.
First US Open Title for India (1999)
Mahesh Bhupathi became the First Indian to win the US Open title when he triumphed at the 1999 Mixed doubles category. Bhupathi was paired with Ai Sugiyama of Japan and they defeated Donald Johnson and Kimberly Po of United States in the final. Click on Next Slide to Read More:
