US Open Day 2: Federer And Murray Progress

The second day of the US Open Tennis Championship saw big names like Roger Federer and Any Murray cruise into the second round.

Andy Murray had a four set match against Nick Kyrgios. Murray, who is seeded third in the tournament was presented with a tough challenge in the form of Kyrgios but the Brit came out with a win. The final score line of the match read 7-5, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 in favor of Murray.

Elsewhere, the 17-Time major champion, Roger Federer secured a win in the first round when he defeated Leonardo do Mayer of Argentina. Federer had a comfortable win of 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 in just 77 minutes of play. Federer is enjoying a good stint at the moment after winning the Cincinatti Open last week where he defeated both Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.

Petra Kvitova Cruises at US Open

Two-Time Wimbledon Champion Petra Kvitova had a winning start to the US Open as well when she defeated Laura Siegemund of Germany 6-1,6-1. Kvitova is seeded fifth in the Women’s draw and will be looking to impress this time around as US Open is the only Grand Slam where she has not reached the semi-finals. Carolina Wozniacki had an easy win in the first round as well when she defeated Jamie Loeb 6-2,6-0.

Victoria Azarenka was another big name that got a win on the second day. Azarenka defeated Lucie Hradecka 6-1,6-2 in the first round and went on to please the crowd by playing with a fan.

One of the major surprises of the day came when 11th seeded Gilles Simon was knocked out of the tournament by Donald Young. The 68th Ranked Young defeated Simon with a score line of  2-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.
