Satish Kumar, L Devendro Singh and Shiva Thapa lost their semi final bouts against their respective opponents to settle for the bronze and a place at the Doha World Championships. However, Vikas Krishan is the man for India, with the scope of winning the highest honours at the ongoing Asian Championships. Vikas won his semi-final bout against Iraq’s Waheed Abdulridha to enter the finals of the competition in the 75 Kg category.
Vikas Krishan vs Bektemir Melikuziev in the Finals
India’s Vikas Krishan opted for an aggressively attacking technique for his semi final bout against Waheed Abdulridha, not letting the Iraqi come out of his shell guard throughout the first round. Abdulridha made numerous defensive errors in the following rounds, while Vikas made sure to clinch the opportunities and seal the victory for himself 3-0.
In the finals, Vikas Krishan is up against Uzbekistan’s Bektemir Melikuziev. The Uzbek is a champion boxer at the youth stages as he clinched the gold in 2014 youth Olympic games in Nanjing.
Six Indians make the cut for World Championships
Indian semi-finalists Satish Kumar, L Devendro Singh, Shiva Thapa and Vikas Krishan were already certain of their berths at the World Championships. However, the strength of the squad got increased by two as Madan Lal and Manoj Kumar, who faced defeats in the quarters, were handed a berth too.
