Roger Federer continued his stellar form in the US Open tennis tournament and cruised into the fourth round. Federer defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber 6–4, 6–4, 6–4 in the third round and has won all nine sets in his three matches so far. Federer, who is seeded second in the tournament, will now face John Isner in the next round.
Petra Kvitova also made it to the fourth round of the tournament after she defeated Anna Karolina Schmiedlova. In a match that lasted 66 minutes, Kvitova came out with a 6–2, 6–1 win and is all set to face British Qualifier Johanna Konta in the fourth round. Konta had earlier knocked out ninth seed Garbine Muguruza.
Victoria Azarenka progressed in the tournament after a great match with Angelique Kerber. The women were involved in a three hour battled which ended in Azarenka’s favor with a scoreline of 7–6, 2–6, 6–4. Azarenka will now face Varvara Lepchenko in the fourth round.
Eugenie Bouchard withdraws from US Open Mixed Doubles and Doubles
Elsewhere, Eugenie Bouchard withdrew from the mixed doubles and doubles competition after picking up an injury. She slipped and fell in the locker room on Friday and is yet to make a decision on her singles play.
Richard Gasquet and Donald Young were the other notable winners of the first session of US Open day 6.
