US Open Day 7: Williams Sisters To Face Off In Quarter Finals

The Williams sisters Serena and Venus are all set to face off against each other in the Quarter-finals of the US Open after winning their respective matches. Venus defeated qualifier Anett Kontaveit 6–2, 6–1 in just 50 minutes to book her berth in the quarter-final.


Meanwhile, Serena Williams came out with a 6–3, 6–3 win against Madison Keys. The sister will now have a high-profile clash in the quarter-final and currently, their head to head stat stands at 15-11 in favor of Serena.

“I would rather lose to Venus as opposed to anyone else. I, in general, don’t like to lose. Yeah, so hopefully we’ll just go out and do the best that we can, and whatever happens hopefully have a good attitude about it,” Serena said after the match.

Marin Cilic Progresses to Quarter final of US Open

Defending champion Marin Cilic also progressed into the quarter-finals of the US Open after he defeated Jeremy Chardy. The final score of the match read 6–3, 2–6, 7–6 (2), 6–1 in favor of Cilic. Cilic will have a tough challenge in the form of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga next. Tsonga had earlier defeated Benoit Paire in the fourth round to book his place.

Elsewhere, Feliciano Lopez also made it into the Quarterfinals by defeating Fabio Fognini 6–3, 7–6 (5), 6–1. Fognini came into the match with a lot of momentum after defeating Rafael Nadal but could not secure a win.
