The Indian Women’s basketball team failed to make it into the semi-finals of the FIBA Asian Championship after a forgettable group stage outing.
The Indian team started off their FIBA Asian Championship campaign with a loss against Chinese Taipei. Chinese Taipei was on top of their game and went home with a comfortable win. The final score read 92-61. Poojamol Subhashmon produced a great performance in the match but it went in vain.
Second match saw India being destroyed by Japan. Japan won the match with a difference of 100 points when they got 131 compared to India’s 31 points. India’s hopes of coming back in the next match were put to bed by China. China defeated India with a score line of 102-39.
India fails to get a win in FIBA Asian Championship
With nothing to lose, India faced off against Thailand in the fourth match and came close to winning the match. In a nail-biting thriller, Thailand went home with a 65-63 win and added insult to injury for India. The last match of the group stage for India came against South Korea. Korea proved to be too much for India and they went on to win the match 121-44.
Jeena Skaria was one of the standout players for India in the tournament but as a whole, the team needs to bounce back in the next tournament.
