World Wrestling Championship: High Hopes For India

The Indian Wrestlers are all set to make their mark at the World Wrestling Championship which will kick off on September 7, 2015 at Las Vegas.

India will be participating in the tournament without their ace wrestler Sushil Kumar, but there are other names in the team who could come the spotlight. Yogeshwar Dutt will be leading the pack in the absence of Sushil. The tournament will serve as the first qualification hurdle for 2016 Rio Olympics

Narsingh Yadav will be carrying a lot of expectations on his shoulders ahead of the tournament. He will compete in the 74kg category in the tournament and is India’s biggest hope in the tournament.

Yogeshwar, meanwhile, will compete in the 65kg freestyle category. The Olympic gold medalist has a lot of momentum right now and has won gold in every tournament he competed in after moving to the 65kg category.

Amit Kumar, who wrestles in the 57kg category and Mausam Khatri who wrestles in the 97kg category would be the other big names to watch out in the men’s division.

Hopes high for the women at World Wrestling Championship

Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari will be the major names for India in the women’s division. Commonwealth games gold medalist Vinesh is also hopeful of getting an Olympic quota. Geeta will compete in the 58kg category while Babita will be seen in the 53kg category.


Men Freestyle: Amit Kumar (57kg), Bajrang Singh (61kg), Yogeshwar Dutt (65kg), Arun (70kg), Narsingh Yadav (74kg), Naresh Kumar (86kg), Mausam Khatri (97kg), Sumit (125kg).

Female Wrestling: Vinesh (48kg), Babita (53kg), Lalita (55kg), Geeta Phogat (58kg), Sarita (60kg), Anita (63kg), Navjot (69kg), Nikki (75kg).

Greco-Roman Wrestling: Ravinder Singh (59kg), Deepak (66kg), M Rafique (71kg), Gurpreet Singh (75kg), Harpreet Singh (80kg), Manoj Kumar (85kg), Hardeep (98kg), Naveen (130kg).
