Apurvi Chandela walked away from the ISSF Rifle and Pistol world cup championships in Munich with a bounce in her step. The Commonwealth Games Gold medalist finished second in the women’s 10 metres Air Rifles event on Saturday, finishing with a total score of 206.9.
Apurvi Chandela: Eyes on Rio
22-years-old Chandela finished behind Elaheh Ahmadi, who scored 207.5 points to take gold for Iran. Serbia’s Arsovic Andrea took bronze in a shoot-off against Croatian Valentina Gustin, with 186.4 points.
The Indian has already booked a ticket to Rio with a bronze-winning performance in the Rifle/Pistol Championships at Changwon earlier this year.
The win came as a consolation for India, as ace shooters Gagan Narang and Gurpreet Singh had disappointed without a podium finish in the finals of Air Rifle event. Commonwealth Games gold medalist Gurpreet Singh finished sixth in the 25 metres rapid fire pistol event, with 11 points.
Indian shooting enthusiasts will now set their eyes on the ISSF World Shotgun Championships, scheduled to commence from the 9th of September. Here’s to hoping Lady Luck favours the Indian contingent in Lonato.
