The Indian Football team suffered a 3-0 defeat against Iran in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier match at Kanteerava Stadium.
India was showing some solid fight in the first half but Iran proved to be too much for the team. Iran were continusly creating chances throughout the half but good work from Arnab Mondal and Sandhesh Jhingan proved effective. Sardar Azmoun, however, broke the deadlock for Iran and scored in the 29th minute. India held on to the score till half time but once the second half began, Iran came up with a couple of deadly blows.
They scored two goals in the space of four minutes to ensure a win. Andranik (47) and Mehdi Taromi (51) were the scorers. Iran piled the pressure on the Indian defense throughout the game but failed to convert their chances into goals.
India, on the other hand, failed to produce one clear cut chance against their mighty opponents and was in ‘desperate defense’ mode throughout the match.

The loss against Iran was India’s third successive one in the World Cup Qualifier Stage. India will now face Turkmenistan on October 8. India is yet to win a point in the group whereas Iran are leading the pack with seven points from three matches.
