Serena Williams Disappointed

“I don’t want to talk about how disappointing it is for me. If you have any other questions, I’m open for that. I thought she played the best tennis in her career. She played, literally, out of her mind,” Serena said after the match.

Meanwhile, Vinci came out and apologized to the crowd. “For the American people, for Serena, for the Grand Slam and everything. But today is my day. Sorry guys,” she said.

Vinci to face Pennetta

In the other semi-final of the tournament, Flavia Pennetta came out a winner against second seeded Simona Halep. Pennetta won the match 6-1, 6-3 took book an all-Italian Grand Slam final at the US Open Tennis Championship.

Pennetta, 33, is a childhood friend of Vinci and the two Italians grew up just 40 miles away from each other. This opens the door for an intriguing storyline in the final and both women will be looking to etch their name into the history books with their first Grand Slam. But today will be remembered for the one who will miss these finals.
