The pair of Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis won their second consecutive Grand Slam Championship by winning the Women’s doubles title at the US Open
Sania and Hingis faced Casey Dellacqua and Yaroslava Shvedova in the final of the tournament and came out with a comfortable 6-3,6-3 win. This is their second consecutive Grand Slam title win as they had won the Wimbledon Championship earlier.
The Indo-Swiss pair did not drop a set throughout the tournament and were pretty happy with the win.
“It has been a great year for us. To win Wimbledon was a great year. Then to come back and back it up to win the US Open, we feel like we’re a really solid team. And we came through again today,” Sania said.
Meanwhile, Hingis claimed that she had a good chemistry with Sania.
“From the start, we hit it off. Our games work well together,” She said.
Second US Open title For Hingis
Hingis had earlier won the US Open Mixed Doubles title with Leander Paes. This is her 11th doubles Grand Slam Championship and second at the US Open. It is the second title on the hard-courts of the US Open for Sania Mirza as well.Hingis and Sania have transformed into a golden pair and have now claimed the last two Grand Slams in addition to having a strong hold on the World number one ranking in women’s doubles.
Meanwhile, Kazak Shvedova had earlier delayed her wedding so that she could play in the finals.
“I will be flying home tomorrow, landing home Tuesday, getting married Wednesday and then flying to another tournament. To my American family, save my bachelorette party for later,” She said.
