The Indian Women’s Junior Hockey Team finished fourth in the Junior Asia Cup Hockey Tournament after losing their 3rd place playoff with South Korea.
India had earlier faced off against Japan in the semi-finals of the tournament and was defeated 3-2 in a penalty shootout. The team was looking to bounce back from this defeat and started the game on a positive note. The girls were looking for a goal from the opening minutes itself and finally found the break in the 19th minute through Namita Toppo.
Korea Finish Strongly at Junior Asia Cup Hockey
The goal from Namita Toppo stunned the Korean team and they showed desperation to equalize. A penalty corner in the 29th minute helped South Korea to equalize. India, however, was in no mood to sit back. Lilima Minz once again gave the team a lead only to be cancelled out by Korea in the 66th minute. It was Minji Lee who scored the equalizing goal for Korea.
Just two minutes later, Korea came up with the winning goal thanks to Jin Cho Hye. The win helped Korea finish third in the tournament whereas the Indian team finished fourth. The team received a lot of praise for the finish as well.
