Incheon: Point guard Joginder Singh set the Hwaesong Sports Complex on fire with 25 points as India defeated Kazakhstan 80-61 in their final group stage game of Men’s basketball. With this victory, the Indians advance to the knockout stage along with Kazakhstan.
Captain Amritpal Singh and Vishesh Bhriguvanshi were other top scorers in the game with 15 and 16 points respectively. For the Kazakhs, Anton Ponomarev top scored with 16 points while Dmitriy Klimov scored 15.
The Indians had good control over the game in all 4 quarters and maintained a healthy lead. They scored 15 points from turnovers, compared to the 9 points scored by Kazakhstan. The Indians dominated in the paint, as they scored 50% of their points in the paint zone.
Earlier in the group stage, India defeated Palestine 89-49 and narrowly lost to Saudi Arabia 67-73. India, Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia, had 2 wins each.
