The Rio Olympics is still some months away but the qualification rounds and quotas are all in place with not many tournaments remaining for the players to win their grand chance at the Olympics. The battle has already heated-up, and is set to become more intense in the coming months as athletes fight it out to find a place in their national contingents for the grand-event.
India has a long list of athletes, who have already qualified for the Rio Olympics.
A total of 13 athletes who have won the quota places to fit into the Indian contingent include Inderjeet Singh (Men’s shot put), Tintu Luka (Women’s 800m).
Both the men’s and the women’s national hockey teams have found a place at the next year’s Rio Olympics. However, both teams would be looking to regain some lost glory for India in the sport at the Olympics.
Eight shooters have made their way into the Rio Olympics with India’s medal hopes pinned on the proven talents of Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang and Jitu Rai among others.
So far, only Narsingh Pancham Yadav has managed a place in wrestling at the 2016 Rio Olympics for India.
The sports’ supporters would be hopeful to have an increased contingent at the next year’s Rio Olympics and bring back bagful of medals and raise the Tri-colour high in Brazil.
