The Indian National Men’s basketball team started off their FIBA Asia Championship campaign with a strong win against Malaysia. India, is placed in Group A with Malaysia, Iran and Japan and had their first date against Malaysia in the championship and came out winning 102-73.
Strong Start for India in FIBA Asia Championship
ONGC forward Yadwinder Singh was on top of his game in the early stages of the match and this along with some excellent team play helped the team to get a 29-19 lead after the first quarter. Malaysia stepped up their game in the second quarter and was defending pretty well against the offense from Indians.
The score at the half-time read 47-32 in India’s favor. The third and fourth quarters once again saw India dominating as the team garnered 26 points from the third quarter and 29 points from the fourth quarter.
The win puts India in a comfortable position in the group considering that they will be facing giants like Iran and Japan in the next two matches. The top three teams from the four groups will make their way into the second round of the championship and with the win against Malaysia, India has a strong chance of qualifying for the second round.
