The Indian Basketball team suffered their second defeat in the FIBA Asia Championship after going down to Japan. The Team, however, has made it to the second round of the tournament, courtesy of their win against Malaysia in the first game.
India came into the match as underdogs but had a solid start to the game. The team scored 11-points in quick succession to build up a lead of 18-15 after the first quarter. Japan bounced back strongly in the second quarter and outscored India. Japan never lost the lead after that and went on to dominate in the next two-quarters as well.
The match went in favour of Japan, with a score line of 83-65 after the four quarters. Takeuchi Joji was the top scorer for Japan with 22 points. He also had 19 rebounds to his name during the match. Meanwhile, Vishesh Bhriguvanshi was the top scorer for India with 24 points.
India into Second Round of FIBA Asia Championship
Despite the loss, India has secured their place in the second round of the FIBA Asia Championship. India won one match and lost two in the group stages, which was enough to earn them their third place in the group standings. Iran topped the group whereas Japan finished second.
