The Indian Men’s basketball team suffered a loss at the hands of Philippines in the second round of FIBA Asia Championship.
India, who came in with hopes scoring their third consecutive win in the group, met a dominating side in the form of Philippines. Indians managed to strike up a lead of 17-16 after the first quarter but the game slipped out of their hands afterwards. Philippines took control in the next three-quarters and built up lead over India progressively. Once the final quarter ended, the score line read 99-65 in favor of the Philippines team.
FIBA Asia Championship: Indian players struggle against Philippines
The trio of Vishesh Bhrguvanshi, Amjyot Singh, and Amrit Pal Singh had piled up points in the previous games but could not shine this time around. They only managed to score 50 points combined and this worked against the Indian team.
With the win, Philippines are on top of the Group E. Elsewhere, India did enough to progress into the Quarter Finals of the tournament, by virtue of its win over Palestine. The team will be looking to produce a standout performance in the next round and overcome memories of this defeat.
