The BMW Berlin Marathon was held on 27 September 2015. Started in 1974, the marathon takes place annually in Berlin, Germany, on the last weekend of September. It is an IAAF Gold Label Road Race and is part of the World Marathon Majors. This marathon is famous for having the most number of world record performances in both men’s as well as women’s category. Around 41000 runners took part in this year’s edition of the Berlin Marathon.

Even though the world record performance of 2:02:57 set by Kenyan Dennis Kimetto in this marathon last year could not be broken, the men’s marathon witnessed some sensational running from Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge, who won the men’s marathon in 2:04:00, making it his best ever performance. His compatriot Eliud Kiptanui came second in 2:05:22 while Ethiopian Feyisa Lelisa came third with a time of 2:06:57.

Gladys Cherono winning The BMW Berlin Marathon

Gladys Cherono made it a Kenyan double by winning the women’s marathon in 2:19:25, successfully joining the exclusive group of now 18 women in the world, finishing a marathon race within the time barrier of 2:20:00.  Ethiopians, Aberu Kebede came second in 2:20:48 and Meseret Hailu came third in 2:24:33.

The insoles of Kipchoge’s shoes started flapping out from kilometer sixteen.

The 30-year-old Kipchoge defied footwear problems to win the marathon with his best ever performance. Both his insoles were flapping out of his shoes from kilometer sixteen. Kipchoge admitted that he was aware of the problem from the very first kilometer.

Ethiopians Dibaba and Melese to participate in Chicago Marathon

The organizers of Bank of America Chicago Marathon have confirmed the participation of Ethiopian duo Berhane Dibaba and Yebrqual Melese.

Dibaba won the Tokyo Marathon this year with a time of 2:23:15, her best being 2:22:30, when she finished second in the same marathon last year.

Melese  won the Houston Marathon in January with a personal best time of 2:23:23 and also won the Prague Marathon in May this year in 2:23:49.

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon is annually held in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA.Like Berlin Marathon, it is one of the six World Marathon Majors and is also an IAAF Gold Label Race. Started in 1977,this year, the 38th edition of this marathon will be held on 11th October.

Like this year, the first major running event in Mumbai next year will be the Hiranandani Powai Run and will be held on 3rd January. Registrations are now open for this event in three categories- 21K, 10K and 4K. Organised by the Rotary Club of Mumbai Lakers, this marathon has rapidly grown to become one of the most popular marathons in Mumbai. Last year, nearly 10000 runners from Mumbai and the nearby cities, participated in this marathon.

The Mumbai Juniorthon – A running event for children in Mumbai

Now, children in Mumbai get an opportunity to participate in a running event. A one of its kind running event accepting participation only from the juniors, The Mumbai Juniorthon is going to be held at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai on 6th December 2015.

Following are the categories that are planned for the children based on their age:

1) 0.5km – 6 to 8 years (1 Child + 1 Parent) (Option of dressing up as their favourite cartoon character or superhero)
2) 1 km – 6 – 11 years
3) 2 km – 6 – 13 years
4) 4 km – 11 – 15 years
5) 0.5km – 6 – 15 years (Differently Enabled)

All participants will receive a t-shirt, bib, refreshments, certificate & finishers medal. There will also be a fun filled carnival after the race for all children and their parents.
