Indian shooters enjoyed a great time at the Asian Airgun Championships earlier this week at the national capital. The Indian team bagged a total of 17 medals, including six gold to finish as table-toppers at the continental championships.
India finish top at the Asian Airgun Championships
Winning 17 medals in the competition, hosts India sit on top of the table with six gold medals, five silver and another six bronze. India were followed by Iran on the second spot with twelve medals and Taipei on third with five medals.
Delightful finish at Asian Airgun Championships for India
The final day of the Asian Airgun Championships saw former world no. 1 Heena Sidhu clinch the gold medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event. Shweta Singh scored 197 to add a silver medal by defeating Seon A Kim of Korea.
“This will help me boost my confidence ahead of the Asian Shooting Championship,” said Shweta after her silver medal finish at the Asian Airgun Championships.
Young shooter Yashaswini Singh Deshwal finished fourth with a score of 155.3, behind Heena, Shweta and Kim in the competition.
Other Indians who made it to the podium prior to the final day are Abhinav Bindra, Jitu Rai, Gurpreet Singh, Ayonika Paul. However, Apurvi Chandela who managed a silver at the ISSF World Cup last month and also won the Olympic berth finished outside the medal bracket in front of the home crowd at the Asian Airgun Championships.
