The Seonhak Stadium witnessed another one-sided game of hockey on a pleasant Tuesday evening. The Indian hockey team defeated Oman 7-0 in another goal fest. India have comfortably placed themselves at the top of the table after this win.
It was a complete team effort as 5 players contributed to the goals tally. Rupinder Pal Singh, who scored a hat-trick against Sri Lanka on Sunday, scored twice. VR Raghunath also scored a brace and SV Sunil, Danish Mujtaba and Akashdeep Singh came up with a goal each.
After a goalless first quarter, The Indians were awarded a penalty corner in the 18th minute. Rupinder made no mistake and he perfectly pushed the ball into the goal post. Another penalty corner came knocking for India in the very next minute and it was the same man who scored the second goal for India.
The third goal also came from a penalty corner in the 33rd minute and striker Akashdeep Singh scored from a deflection. Six minutes later, Oman committed another costly foul on defender VR Raghunath and gifted away a penalty stroke. Raghu made no mistake as he scored from the spot and helped India gain a 4-0 lead as the 3rd quarter ended.
The last quarter of the game saw the Indians counter attacking from both the flanks. The last six minutes of the game saw three more goals by SV Sunil, Danish Mujtaba and Raghunath. This set up a comfortable victory for team India.
India play their next match against arch-rivals Pakistan on Thursday. Before leaving for the games, Indian captain Sardar Singh remarked that the team is looking forward to the game against the 2010 Asian Games Gold medallists. This promises to be a cracker of a contest.
