Golf is an elite sport across the world, but there is very limited access to it in India. However, that does not stop the Indian golf players from pursuing their professional careers in the sport. The equipment, the gears, the uniform may be expensive to buy, but the talent is there to shine.
The 28 year old turned pro in 2007 and since then has registered 18 wins. Two in the European tour while another seven in the Asian tour.
Both his European tour victories came this year, first at the Maybank Malaysian Open followed by the Hero Indian Open.
The year 2015 has been especially great for the top ranked Indian, breaking in to the top 50 and a finish in top five at the PGA Championship. Lahiri also got selected for the prestigious President’s Cup that is to be held next week.
Lahiri looks destined for greatness in golf and is likely to bring many more laurels for the country in the near future.
Jeev Milkha Singh
He is the first player to break in to the top 100, he is the first Indian to play in the European tour, he is also the first Indian to have played in a major.
It can be rightly said that Jeev Milkha Singh is a pioneer for Indian Golf players of the current generation. He’s registered 20 professional wins throughout his career. His best finish has been at the PGA tour in 2008, where he finished tied ninth.
That until the 2015 was the record for an Indian in a Golf Grand Slam. However, Anirban Lahiri went better this year with his fifth place finish at the PGA Open
