Dipika Pallikal will have to shoulder the expectations alone as Joshna Chinappa was knocked out of the tournament. Joshna was up against Omneya Abdel Kawy of Egypt in the round of 16. Joshna had earlier won her Round of 32 match against Annie Au of Hong Kong but failed to produce the winning spark against her Egyptian opponent.

Dipika, on the other hand, defeated Alison Waters in the Round of 16 to book her place in the Quarter Finals. Before that, Dipika had defeated Joelle King of New Zealand in the first match. She will now face Kawy in the Quarter Finals on Thursday.

Massaro Laura of England, Nicol David of Malaysia, Serme Camille of France, Nour El Sherbini of Egypt, Nour El Tayeb of Egypt and Raneem El Welily of Egypt are the other players remaining in the Women’s draw.

In the men’s draw, Indian Sourav Ghosal was defeated in the round of 32 by Gregory Gaultier of France.
