Commonwealth Weight Lifting: Indian Lifters Shines


The Indian weightlifters gave a standout performance at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship by bagging top honors in five out of six categories.

The Indian weight lifters gave a stand out performance at the Commonwealth weight lifting Championship

India finished on top of the Senior men, Senior Women, Junior men, Junior Women, and the youth girls categories whereas they finished second in the Youth boys division when Sri Lanka took home the championship. Indian lifters came out with a handful of best lifter awards as well. Sathish Kumar was crowned the best lifter in the senior men’s category when S Mirabai Chanu was the best lifter in the Senior Women’s category.

RV Rahul was the best lifter in the junior men’s category and Pramila Krisani achieved the same in the Junior Women’s category. Indians swept the best lifter awards in the Youth division as well thanks to Mohini Chavan (youth girls) and Lalu Taku (youth boys).

It is a great show by the Indian lifters and the confidence is on an all-time high after the triumph. The weight-lifting team will now look to make their mark in more international arenas before the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
