Saina Nehwal managed to reach the quarter-finals of the French Open Badminton tournament while other Indian players crashed out.

Saina, who earlier won against Michelle Li of Canada in the first round, faced Minatsu Mitani in the second round. The match proved to be a comfortable outing for the top seed as she took it home in straight games and a score of 21-19, 21-16. Saina will now face eight seed Ratchanok Intanon in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
While Saina progressed into the next round, HS Prannoy and Parupalli Kashyap bowed out of the tournament. Kashyap retired against Rajiv Ouseph of Great Britain after two games. The game was going in a highly competitive fashion with the score reading 21-11, 13-21, and 4-2, when Kashyap had to withdraw as he found it hard to continue.
Prannoy, who defeated Olympic Champion Lin Dan in the first round was defeated by Long Angus of Hong Kong. The score read 21-15, 21-10 in favor of Angus.
In the Women’s doubles category, Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa were defeated by Eefje Muskens and Selena Piek by a score of 21-15, 21-18.
