North East United managed to secure their second straight win in the Indian Super League after defeating Atletico De Kolkata 1-0.
Atletico made five changes to their team ahead of the match whereas North East United made three from the team that defeated Chennaiyin FC. The crowd proved to be incredibly vocal throughout and it acted as a boost for the North East United. They were on the front foot in the early stages and came out with corners and shots on targets. Kolkata had their fair share of attacking movement as well with Hume causing problems for the North East defense. Chance after chance went in vain and both teams failed to break the deadlock at half time.
North East United land a deadly blow late in the second half
Atletico had a better start to the second half and once again, Hume was at the centre of the action. Meanwhile, Kamara shined for Northeast in the start and the home team received more firepower when Nicolas Velez was brought on for Francis Dadzie. Just seconds after the substitution, Nato headed the ball into the crossbar and Kolkata went agonizingly close. 15 minutes after being brought on, Velez changed the course of the game when he volleyed the ball perfectly into the far post.
It was pure desperation from Kolkata after the goal but they failed to come up with a miracle in the dying minutes and had to settle for the defeat.
