Indian badminton star Saina Nehwal was knocked out in tge quarterfinals of the French Open badminton tournament by Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon.
Ratchanok dominates Saina Nehwal
The top seeded Saina came into the match as the favorite against Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand. Seeded eight in the tournament, Ratchanok gave a tough battle for Saina in the first game. The Indian failed to keep on pace with the Thailand starlet and eventually lost the first game by a large margin of 21-9.
Ratchanok controlled the second game of the match as well, combining brilliance at the net, with pin point accurate smashes. Saina was well behind at one point of the game but came back to 11-15 to keep Indian hopes alive. However, Ratchanok wrapped up the game for a score of 21-15 to end Saina’s run in the tournament.
Saina was the lone Indian remaining in the tournament and her defeat has ended India’s campaign at the tournament.
Earlier, P Kashyap and HS Prannoy had been eliminated in the second round whereas the Women’s doubles pairing of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa also found an exit in the second round. The other Indian representative in the Women’s single category, PV Sindhu, failed to clear the first hurdle of the tournament. Kidambi Srikanth had a similar faith in the men’s single category.
