Indian sportspersons have been doing well at International events in recent times. And archer Abhishek Verma added his name to the list of history makers with a silver medal finish at the Archery World Cup finals.
Abhishek Verma in phenomenal form
The 26 year old Indian came up against Demir Elmaagcli of Turkey in the final clash after recording a perfect score of 150 in his semi-final victory over Mario Cardoso.
“You never know when perfect score is going to happen. Sometimes you just have a good feeling and this is what happened to me. It’s been a great experience,” Abhishek said.
The gold medal match between Abhishek and Demir was also a closely fought contest. The lead kept switching at the end of each round. That made it difficult for the viewers to draw a clear statement on who’s winning. At the end, two consecutive perfect scores from the Turkish took the game and the gold medal away from the Indian’s reach. Thus Abhishek went down fighting at 143-145 to settle for the silver medal.
While the gold medal eluded Abhishek Verma, there is no doubt that he is now amongst the top archers in his category. While we all fete Indian athletes like Saina Nehwal for reaching the World #1 ranking, the day is not far away when an unheralded but tough champion from India Abhishek Verma will reach the pinnacle in his chosen sport . God Speed and Good luck Abhishek.
