Just a day after star-archer Abhishek Verma won India’s first silver medal in the compound at the Archery World Cup finals. Deepika Kumari too settled for the silver medal at the Archery World Cup finals yet again. She has now won the silver medal at the finals four times in the last five years.
Deepika Kumari loses to Choi Misun
India’s most consistent performer at the World Cup finals Deepika Kumari once again could not succeed in winning the gold. She has been the runners-up in 2011, 2012, 2013. Her silver medal this year takes her tally up to four silver medals.
Deepika faced top seed Choi Misun of Korea in the finals. The Korean comfortably took the lead in the second round and the Indian couldn’t do much to take it back. “My arrows went up. I tried to fix my sight but nothing worked,” explained Deepika. She lost the finals 6-2.
Admitting to disappointment of not winning the gold, Deepika said, “I wish I had won gold, It’s something that doesn’t seem to happen to me.”
Deepika’s hunt for a gold medal at the Archery World Cup finals will have to wait for yet another year.
