FC Goa and FC Pune City played out a 1-1 Draw in the Indian Super League. This helped Pune cement their stay on top of the ISL Table.
Despite being hit by a string of injuries, it was Goa who started on the right foot. They dominated throughout the first half thanks to Leonardo Moura and Jonatan Lucca. Goa was focusing mainly on the left flank where they found numerous chances. Mandar Rao hit the cross bar in the 22nd minute after a move through the left flank.
Substitution Does the job for Pune City
However, Goa did take the lead in the 46th minute. Pune City defender Roger Johnson, in an attempt to clear a Romeo Fernandes cross slotted the ball into his own net. The goal proved to be an eye opener for Pune city and they started to make chances.
They brought on Wesley Verhoek and Jackichand Singh for Tuncay Sanli and Bikash Jairu. The substitution proved to be crucial for the team. Wesley was causing havoc down the right for Goan defense and drilled in many crosses. One of these crosses was met by Eugeneson, who calmly headed the ball into the net without being challenged.
The draw helped Pune City to retain their top position in the ISL points table with 13 points from seven matches. FC Goa, meanwhile, was moved to third with 11 points.
