The Egyptian top-seed faced an unusual outcome in her opening round match at the Qatar Open. Paired against India’s Joshana, the Egyptian would have expected an easy win. But the Indian took advantage of the situation and stunned the top-seed thereby also progressing to the second round.

Raneem had a tough time in the first set, ending up losing 11-9. And Joshana capitalized on that momentum to ensure an even stronger presence in the court during the second game, which she comfortably won 11-6. The third game was crucial for the survival of Raneem and the top seed made no mistakes in taking the game quickly, thereby setting the stage for a comeback.

However, Joshana took the pressure well and bounced back to win the hard-fought fourth game. 11-9. Thus winning the first round 11-9, 11-6, 4-11, 11-9.

In other matches, fellow Indian squash star and compatriot, Dipika Pallikal lost to Egyptian Yathreb Adel. However Saurav Ghosal and Joshana are still alive in this tournament and one hopes to see the duo bring more joy to the nation.  After all this rousing win by Joshana , the hopes of the Indian squash fans will be high.
