Head to Head and Form
India comes into the test series against South Africa after defeating Sri Lanka 2-1. The team showed great character to win against Lankans after going down 1-0. Before this, India washed out Bangladesh as well, meaning that they are enjoying good form when it comes to test matches.
South Africa on the other hand, had beaten the likes of West Indies and Sri Lanka prior to their Bangladesh series that was haunted by rain. When it comes to head to head between South Africa and India, South Africa has the upper hand with the last series going their way 1-0.
Players to watch out:
Dale Steyn will be a major threat to the Indian batsmen. He will be the spearhead of South African bowling whereas the batting department is likely to be led by captain Hashim Amla and AB De Villiers. De Villiers had a great ODI series and he will be looking to continue the form in Tests as well.
As for India, R Ashwin will be crucial in the bowling department. If he can find some turn in the pitch, Ashwin will clearly cause problems for the African batsmen. Virat Kohli is likely to be the major name in the batting department, along with Ajinkya Rahane. If Rohit Sharma manages to wake up on the right side of the bed, he could have a good time as well.
