After a surge of strong performances in the first and the second round, Indian star player Joshana Chinappa’s phenomenal run came to an end in Qatar. Facing a third Egyptian opponent on the trot the Indian could not succeed in making it through to the semis. Joshana lost her quarter-finals 11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 12-10, 11-6 against fifth seed Omneya Abdel Kawy.
Hard-Fought Loss for Joshana Chinappa
Joshana lost the quarters in a thrilling neck-to-neck battle. She lost the first set 11-8 but made a strong comeback to take the next two sets 9-11 and 7-11.
That is when the Indian squash fans would have started their celebrations. However, a strong performance from Kawy in the fourth set denied a quick finish for the Indian as the game went to deuce before Joshana lost 12-10.
It came down to the final game and the Egyptian clearly focused at advancing ahead did not take long before putting away the hopes of the Indian squash fans.
“I played ok today and Joshana played really well so I don’t know how I got through this one,” said Kawy after her match.
In spite of the loss there is some good news for Indian squash fans as Joshana Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal made a move up in latest Professional Squash Association (PSA) rankings, basis their performance in the US Open.
