Carlos Marchena, who was the marquee player for Kerala Blasters in this season’s ISL, has left the club after playing just one match.
Marchena, a former FIFA World Cup winner with the Spanish National Team, was struggling with injuries throughout the season. He only played in the 1-0 home loss against Delhi Dynamos this year and the club announced that Marchena has left the club due to personal reasons.
“Unfortunate, Carlos Marchena has gone back to Spain due some personal reason, and will not be with for the rest of the season. We thank him for his time here and wish him the best,” said Viren D’Silva, CEO of Kerala Blasters.
James McFadden Could join Kerala Blasters
The club is currently trying to lure former Everton player James McFadden to replace Marchena. McFadden has a wealth of experience to his name and will clearly be a great signing for the club. Kerala had recently replaced Peter Taylor with Terry Phelan in the coaching staff due to poor form. Kerala are currently seventh in the points table with two wins in the season so far.
“We are in talks with James McFadden as possible new international signing,” Viren added.
They however, enjoyed a good win against table toppers Pune City last night and will be looking to pounce on the momentum.
